اَ۬لذِينَ لَا مِّن لَا مَا قَدْ مِنَ وَمَا قَدْ لَكُمُ إِن

O ye who believe! Take not for intimates others than your own folk, who would spare no pains to ruin you; they love to hamper you. Hatred is revealed by (the utterance of) their mouths, but that which their breasts hide is greater. We have made plain for you the revelations if ye will understand — Pickthall

Shaykh Ibrāhīm Niasse (d. 1975) read the whole Qurʾān aloud at Medina Baye over fifty-six sessions between ẓuhr and ʿaṣr in Ramaḍān 1383/1964, and his students wrote those sessions down as Fī Riyāḍ al-Tafsīr. The āya above is Warsh ʿan Nāfiʿ, the rasm of the printed edition. The root behind each underlined word comes from a Ḥafṣ ʿan ʿĀṣim corpus, realigned to this Warsh text word by word; 125 of the 6,236 āyāt differ in word count between the two riwāyāt, and those were aligned rather than assumed. (وَمَا تُخْصِ صُدُورُهُم من العداوة (أَكْبَرُۖ قَدْ بَيَّنَّا لَكُمُ اُ۬لَايَٰتِ) على عداوتهم (إِن عَنتُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ) ذلك فلا توالوهم (هَانتُمُ وَ أُوْلَاءٍ تُحِبُّونَهُمْ) أنتم تحبوَهم، المنافقين واليهود لقرابتهم منكم وصداقتهم التي يثيرون كذبا (وَلا يُحِبُّونَكُمْ) وهم لا يحبونكم لمخالفتهم لكم في الدين "وَلاَ يَزَالُونَ يُقَتِلُونَكُمْ حَتَّىٰ يَرْدُوكُمْ عَى دِينِكُمُوَ إِنِ إسْتَطَعُوا" "وَلَى تَرْضِىٰ عَنكَ ٱلْيَهُودُ وَلَاَ النَّصَرِى حَتَّىٰ تَتَّبِعَ مِلَّتَهُمْ هذه العداوة لا دواء لها أبدا ( وَتُومِنُونَ بِالْكِتَٰبِ كُلِّهُ) بالكتب كلها وهم لا يؤمنون بكتابكم ( وَإِذَا لَقُوكُمْ قَالُواْ ءَامَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوْاْ عَضُّواْ عَلَيْكُمُ الاَنَامِلَ) أطراف الأصابع مَ ألْغَيْظٌ) من شدة الغضب لما يرون من ائتلافكم هذا غاية في الغضب (فَلْ مُوتُواْ بِغَيْظِكُمُ و) ابقوا عليه إلى الموت فلن تروا ما يسركم أبدا في أهل الإيمان ( إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ بما في القلوب ومنه …
